All services

The University Library System provides you with a wide range of services to enhance your reading, studying and finding documents for your research. Many of them are for your independent use; feel free to ask at your library's front desk for mediated services and for any help.

You have free access to

  • reading rooms: no booking required

  • open shelves to browse: to find your book and discover more

  • self loan: in many libraries there are self loan stations for you to check out and check back in books yourself. Get more info at the front desk

  • Unopertutto: use our discovery tool for your literature search and direct access to electronic full texts and open access research articles. With your UnigePass credentials you can also book an on shelf item, place a hold request for a book that is currently on loan, and renew an item you have on loan

  • databases: with Database search, part of the Unopertutto discovery tool, you can search our databases and browse them by subject.


Ask at your library’s front desk for:

  • finding and borrowing books: ask for directions to the open shelves, get info on library services, borrow and return books

  • reference service: librarians can help with all your information needs. Get tips on how to search the catalogue, how to design and develop a search strategy, how to best use your library’s resources. Get more info or book a meeting at your School library or via the Contact your library form

  • resource sharing: you can borrow books or request articles and book chapters from outside the university through your School library. You can also register at NILDE to make requests on your own and ask for an article through RapidILL. Contact your library to learn how

  • Newspapers and magazines from around the world in the MLOL newsstand

  • More than 12,000 educational videos in STEM disciplines in the JOVE database
